Prevent window collisions

Make glass visible to birds.

5 min read

Many birds die each year from hitting windows. Simple steps help.

What works

  • Apply decals, tape or dots on the outside of the glass, spaced about 2 inches apart horizontally and 4 inches vertically
  • Use exterior screens or netting
  • Move feeders within 3 feet of windows or more than 30 feet away
  • Turn off unneeded lights at night during migration

Single decals

One silhouette sticker on a big window usually isn't enough. Birds need patterns across the whole surface.
